Jiachen Year Legal Affairs and Law Course – Dragon Boat Festival

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival and Duanyang. It is also known as the May Festival, Bath Orchid Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and other titles. It is also known as the Spring Festival, Qingming Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival as the four traditional festivals in China. So what does it have to do with Taoism? In the folk customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, two mythical figures, Zhong Kui and Zhang Tianshi, will appear. In ancient times, there was a custom of hanging portraits of Zhong Kui and Zhang Tianshi riding Aihu on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. Wei Guanzhi, a poet of the Song Dynasty, wrote in “The Name of Disorder”: “The master of hanging, with his eyes raised, looked straight down. He was riding a ferocious tiger. He was a wandering spirit and wandering ghost. He was afraid of other places and far away. He was bold and dared to come and visit his house.”
